Parental Involvement
Parents and Helpers are the backbone of Little Athletics. Without parents there would be no Little Athletics. Voluntary help is a critical factor in the success of the Bracken Ridge Little Athletics Centre, we are happy to provide training to those that require it. This helps assists with the smooth running of our Friday night competitions as well as behind-the-scenes administrative support and Centre management. The Centre should not be used as a child minding facility and we have a policy at the centre that states: If children are dropped at the centre for competition or training and do not have a parent or nominated guardian present they will not be allowed to compete until that parent or guardian arrives.
Parental Assistance
Parent assistance takes many forms including track event timing, event marshalling, field event measuring, raking of pits, event recording, weekly results ranking, age group management and assistance.
Little A’s is a family affair!
You don’t have to be an expert or a sports person in any discipline
All we need are willing helpers. We’ll show you what to do
– It’s really quite easy!
Requirements are as follows:-
– Event Managers require at least 3 helpers for measuring, recording and raking.
– Track requires up to 3 timekeepers, 3 place judges and 1 recorder.
– Each Age group needs an Age Marshal to lead them around. Some assistants are also required for the younger age groups.
– Canteen and BBQ.
All these tasks assist both your children and others to enjoy their time at the Centre and to ensure that our Friday night competitions run as effectively and efficiently as possible. If we don’t have your support your athletes will suffer by not competing, waiting far too long and generally becoming dissatisfied and discouraged with Little A’s.
Track and Field Assistants (Parent Helpers)
The long standing policy of the club is that apart from athletes the only people that are permitted to be on the main oval or field area during competition are Track Officials (Starters and Timekeepers), Age Managers, Track Assistants (Timekeepers and Place Judges), Field Assistants and Recorders.
The only exception to this rule is that parents of Under 6’s can stay with their child if absolutely necessary.
NO PARENTS… NO COMPETITION
Parents please note that we have a policy at the centre that states: If children are dropped at the centre for competition or training and do not have a parent or nominated guardian present they will not be allowed to compete until that parent or guardian arrives.
We are sure that you will understand that whilst we have procedures in place that ensure we take the utmost duty of care in providing your children with a safe and pleasant environment in which to compete, we can in no way take responsibility for your child’s safety if they are unattended and experience difficulties during the time we are present.
It may be of surprise to you that in the past we have had children as young as 7 and 8 left alone at the end of the night with no way of contacting their parents or guardian and we can not consider them lost property and simply lock them up till the following week!
You must understand that we all have children at the centre and the rule applies to all of us with no exception. If you can not make it to the competition or training please ensure that you make the proper arrangements with someone you know that can be a nominated guardian.
1.8.4 Parent Roster
A roster levy is paid upon registration of athlete. The roster levy will be refundable at the end of the season if parents/guardians complete the specified number of nights for the current season(see handout in registration pack). It is a requirement that you MUST complete a portion of your roster BEFORE the Christmas break (if you sign-on before Christmas) and a portion AFTER the Christmas break. Scheduled Competition nights are adjusted according to the date of athlete registration and/or cancellation of competition nights beyond the Centre’s control. E.g. rain.
If the required number of roster commitments are not fulfilled, you will forfeit your roster refund and your child WILL NOT be eligible to receive a trophy at the end of the season.
**Please ensure that your name has been recorded on the online app and you have confirmed your attendance on the night that you work. Your online app will allow you to keep a track of the number of times that you have performed a weekly roster and will guarantee you are credited with all the rosters you have completed.
